AGARTALA: Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, former chairman of the Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA), has declared his intention to embark on a fast-unto-death in a bid to draw attention to the longstanding grievances of Tripura’s indigenous population.
In a passionate audio message on February 24, Pradyot expressed deep disappointment with what he perceives as the central government’s neglect of the issues faced by Tripura’s indigenous communities.
“I have ardently championed the cause of my people, and now, we stand at the apex of this endeavour. I have made countless sacrifices for my fellow Tiprasa,” Pradyot can be heard as saying in his message, underscoring his unwavering dedication to the cause.
He lamented the lack of attention given to the indigenous people of Tripura by officials and leaders in Delhi, accusing them of disregarding the state’s significance and delaying crucial discussions on finding constitutional solutions for indigenous rights.
Warning that failure on the part of the Centre to take decisive action would lead to drastic measures, Pradyot declared his readiness to make “the ultimate sacrifice” for his people by undertaking a fast unto death.
“I am prepared to place my cause above my own well-being and family. I am committed to sacrificing my life for the betterment of my people,” he proclaimed with resolute determination.
