AGARTALA: In a major crackdown on the infiltration of illegal migrants from Bangladesh, 12 Bangladesh nationals, including three women, were apprehended in West Tripura District on Sunday for illegally entering Indian Territory.
As per reports, 12 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by Tripura police near the international border in the Lankamura and Shanmura areas on the outskirts of Agartala in the West Tripura district.
Police have registered a case against the 12 detainees under the Foreigners Act and Passport Act.
On August 2, the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel apprehended 10 Bangladeshi nationals at Sanmura on the outskirts of the capital city.
Notably, in view of ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, the BSF has stepped up its vigilance along the 856-km border with Tripura and maintained close coordination with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at various levels.
Over the last two-and-a-half months, around 200 Bangladeshi nationals and 32 Rohingyas were arrested by the Government Railway Police, BSF, and Tripura Police from the Agartala railway station and various other places in Tripura after they illegally entered India.
The BSF has also introduced a multi-pronged strategy to prevent trans-border crime and illegal infiltration.
The BSF, in coordination with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), has been conducting joint patrolling along the India-Bangladesh borders to prevent infiltration and numerous border crimes.
