Agaratala: Three Bangladeshi nationals who had been working as carpenters in Tripura’s Gomati district for the past few months without valid documents were apprehended from Dwajanagar on Wednesday, police said.
The detainees were identified as Md Ashraful Haq, Md Kalu and Md Eashraful, all residents of Bangladesh’s Rajshahi district.
Acting on specific inputs about the presence of Bangladeshi nationals, a police team conducted a raid at Dwajanagar under RK Pur police station on Wednesday and detained four suspects.
After questioning, it was found that three were Bangladeshi citizens, while the fourth was a resident of Killa in the Udaipur subdivision, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Debanjali Roy said.
She said preliminary investigations revealed that the three Bangladeshi nationals had been working under Matiur Rahaman, a carpenter from Killa in the Udaipur subdivision. Matiur was also detained for allegedly providing shelter to the three foreigners.

“During interrogation, they admitted to having entered Indian territory illegally in search of work and without any valid documents,” the SDPO said.
