Agartala: A school picnic turned into a day of distress when a bus carrying students caught fire in the Mohanpur area of West Tripura on Sunday, leaving 13 children injured.
The incident occurred when a generator inside the bus exploded, officials reported.
Nine of the injured students were rushed to GBP Hospital in Agartala for advanced medical care, while four others were treated locally and later discharged, according to Kiran Kumar, the Superintendent of Police for West Tripura.
“The generator explosion caused the fire inside the bus, and we are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances,” said Kumar.
Expressing his concern, Chief Minister Manik Saha extended his heartfelt prayers for the students’ swift recovery.

“This is an unfortunate incident, and my thoughts are with the injured and their families. The administration is ensuring all necessary medical attention is provided promptly,” the chief minister stated in a social media post.
He further urged the public to exercise caution during outings, emphasising safety precautions to prevent such tragedies.
As the community rallies around the injured students, the investigation continues, aiming to uncover more details about the cause of the explosion and ways to prevent similar incidents in the future.
