Riflewomen of Assam Rifles rescue Tripura flood victims

AGARTALA: Demonstrating exceptional courage and resilience, riflewomen of Assam Rifles are leading the relief and rescue operations in flood-hit Tripura.

Four rescue columns of Assam Rifles have been launched in various parts of the state, including East Kanchanbari, Kumarghat, Unakoti district, Amarpur of Gomati district, Bishalgarh, Sepahijala district, and Tripura West.

On August 22, information was received by Assam Rifles that some women were stuck on the rooftops of submerged houses in Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district.

The relief teams of Assam Rifles comprising riflewomen rushed to the location and safely rescued the stranded women.

They not only helped these women to reach the relief camps but also provided essential items.

In the face of challenging flood conditions in the state, Assam Rifles’ riflewomen were an asset during the rescue operation, providing essential support and assistance, particularly to women in need.

Over 750 people have been evacuated across the state as of Thursday.

In addition to evacuations, Assam Rifles has been offering medical care and other essential support to those affected by the floods.

The Assam Rifles is working in close coordination with civil administration and NDRF teams in the state to alleviate the difficulties of stranded citizens.

The death toll from extensive flooding in Tripura has risen to 10 and over 34,000 people are taking shelter in 331 relief camps in 8 districts of the state.

The relief materials and disaster management equipment landed at Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur Airport in Agartala on Thursday and were swiftly dispatched to flood-affected areas.

In the wake of the ongoing flood situation, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has appealed to the people of the state to remain vigilant and follow the authorities’ instructions as the state braces for more challenging days ahead.
