Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday announced that pink toilets are being set up across the 19 civic bodies of the state to ensure better hygiene facilities for working women.
Dr. Saha noted that existing public toilets often lack adequate hygiene, making them unsuitable for women.
“Women often feel hesitant to use common toilets due to hygiene concerns. The pink toilets, specifically designed for women, will be set up to address this concern. This initiative underscores the state government’s dedication to women’s empowerment,” he said.
CM Saha emphasized that the state government has actively empowered women through the implementation of numerous policies.
“We have introduced 33 percent reservation for women in governance and raised the quota for women soldiers in the Tripura State Rifles from 15 percent to 33 percent. Furthermore, nine women police stations have been set up across the state to effectively address crimes against women,” he stated.
The chief minister emphasized the success of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in empowering women economically, leading to sustainable livelihoods.
He highlighted that over 85,000 women, now known as ‘Lakhpati Didis,’ have achieved incomes exceeding Rs 1 lakh through their SHG activities.
