Agartala: Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), will visit Tripura on August 10 to assess the condition and progress of national highway construction and maintenance across the state, according to an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Wednesday.
The visit follows Chief Minister Manik Saha’s appeal to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari regarding the deteriorating condition of a 12-km stretch of National Highway 208 between Khowai and Kamalpur.
The appeal was made in a letter dated May 10, in which the chief minister sought urgent intervention.
In response, Gadkari informed Saha that a team from the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) had already surveyed the stretch between July 23 and 27.
The team is expected to submit its report to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) by August 15.

The CMO statement noted that Saha has repeatedly raised the issue with Gadkari, including a direct conversation, and directed Tripura PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte to follow up with the central ministry.
As part of state-level monitoring, Gitte recently conducted field inspections across various segments of NH-208 in Khowai, Unakoti, Dhalai, and North Tripura, accompanied by officials from NHIDCL and the Public Works Department (PWD).
He has urged NHIDCL to expedite the repair and maintenance works and ensure completion before the Durga Puja festival.
