Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday announced that 16,942 regular government posts have been filled across various departments in the state over the past seven years, citing the figure as a testament to the BJP-led government’s transparent recruitment policy since coming to power in 2018.
Speaking at a government event to distribute appointment letters to newly selected candidates, Saha said the current administration has prioritized fair and merit-based hiring.
“From the financial year 2018–19 to date, a total of 16,942 posts have been filled through transparent recruitment drives,” the chief minister said, adding that an additional 2,987 candidates have been engaged through outsourcing agencies.
Highlighting a major recruitment milestone earlier this year, Saha noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah distributed 2,806 appointment letters during a ceremony in February 2025—marking the largest single-day offering of government jobs in the state’s history.
Responding to criticism from the opposition over employment concerns, Saha said the state’s unemployment rate has significantly improved.
Citing the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation’s Periodic Labour Force Survey, he stated that unemployment in Tripura has dropped from 10% in 2018–19 to just 1.7%—a figure notably below the national average of 3.2%.
“This sharp decline in unemployment shows that employability and opportunities in Tripura have expanded considerably under the present government,” he asserted.
Saha also emphasised the impact of self-help groups (SHGs) in empowering women and boosting local economies.
According to the chief minister, over 4.84 lakh women are now engaged in 53,623 SHGs across the state, supported by a revolving fund of Rs. 714.16 crore.

“This is a remarkable leap from the Rs. 32 crore allocated under the previous government,” he said, noting the growing number of ‘lakhpati didis’—women earning over Rs. 1 lakh annually—in the Northeast, which now stands at 91,871.
Congratulating the 479 new appointees present at the event, Saha drew a contrast with past regimes, alleging that job allocations were once based on recommendations rather than merit.
“Today’s recipients have earned their positions through skill and hard work. This is the new Tripura—transparent, accountable, and driven by merit,” he said.
