Union Home Minister Amit Shah and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will attend the two-day plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Tripura on December 20-21, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
In addition to the plenary meeting, two other events will be held: sessions with bankers and a meeting of the Northeast Space Application Centre (NSAC), focusing on the region’s development and technological advancements.
L T Darlong, Secretary (Planning & Coordination), confirmed that both Shah and Scindia will participate in the event, which is expected to serve as an important platform for discussions on the development of the northeastern states.
“We are expecting various guests and delegations and are making all necessary arrangements to ensure the success of the meeting,” he said.
Ahead of the session, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, and Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan visited the Ujjayanta Palace on Tuesday to review the preparations.
Originally scheduled for September, the plenary session was delayed due to devastating floods in the state.
Authorities are now fully prepared for the event, which will address key regional issues.
Security measures have been tightened around the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP), located near Agartala, in anticipation of the high-profile visit, with Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar confirming the enhanced security.
The NEC plenary session is set to be a significant event, bringing together central leaders and state representatives to discuss critical issues for the development of the northeast.
