AGARTALA: For the first time, Tripura will host a 2-day North East Council (NEC) plenary meeting in Agartala.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and chief ministers and Governors of Northeastern states would join the North Eastern Council (NEC) plenary session to be held in Agartala on August 31 and September 1.
Chief Minister Manik Saha said it’s a matter of great pride as the state will be hosting the NEC meeting for the first time.
“Earlier, we used to go to Shillong, Assam. Now, for the first time, the NEC meeting is going to happen here on August 31 and September 1,” Saha said.
He added that preparations are underway to ensure smooth execution of the event.
The 2-day meeting is expected to focus on several key issues including the development of the northeastern region, the India-Bangladesh border and the progress of various ongoing developmental projects.

The NEC, formed under the North-Eastern Council Act, 1971, is a regional planning and statutory advisory body for the eight northeastern states including Sikkim. The organization is headquartered in Shillong.
