AGARTALA: Authorities in Tripura’s Kanchanpur region have ramped up security measures amid concerns over the reported movement of extremist groups near the international border with Bangladesh.
Kanchanpur, located in North Tripura, shares a 48-kilometer border with Bangladesh’s Rangamati and Khagrachari districts.
While most of the boundary is secured by fencing, an unfenced stretch of approximately 300 meters has raised concerns over potential vulnerabilities.
“We have received reports about possible movements of extremist groups along the border area,” said Avinash Kumar Rai, Superintendent of Police for North District.
“Although there is no concrete evidence of their presence, we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the security of the region.”
In response, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) have intensified patrols and monitoring efforts along the border, particularly in areas deemed sensitive.
Special operations have been launched to address potential threats and bolster security in vulnerable zones of the Kanchanpur subdivision.

Despite these reports, Rai reassured the public that the border remains “totally secured” and emphasized that the region’s law and order situation is firmly under control.
“Development activities across the subdivision are progressing without any disruptions,” he added.
The increased vigilance underscores the importance of safeguarding border regions prone to cross-border activities, with authorities determined to maintain peace and stability while ensuring development efforts are unaffected.
