Agartala: Intense rainfall and thunderstorms have caused significant damage across Tripura, with over 400 houses affected, according to an official statement.
The severe weather disrupted electricity supply as 49 power poles were damaged.
Two individuals sustained injuries in Karbook, Gomati district, after their homes collapsed.
The injured were identified as Nayan Kumar Tripura, 70, and Rumati Tripura, 39.
“Widespread destruction occurred due to the heavy rain and storm that struck Tripura in the early hours of April 21, leaving 445 houses fully, partially, or severely damaged,” the statement noted.
Despite the damage, major rivers such as Gomati, Muhuri, and Feni are reported to be flowing below flood levels.
In a separate incident, heavy downpours in Guwahati early Tuesday caused widespread flooding, leading to severe traffic congestion across key roads.
The rain, lasting two to three hours, resulted in knee-deep water on several major thoroughfares.
Areas affected by waterlogging included Zoo Road, RG Baruah Road, GS Road, Nabin Nagar, Anil Nagar, Guwahati Club, Lachit Nagar, Chandmari, Panjabari, Jorabat, Tarun Nagar, and Survey, among others.
