Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that revenue collection has seen a significant boost following the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Addressing a workshop on the Benefits from Next Generation GST held at Muktadhara Auditorium, Agartala on Wednesday, he said that the GST system has strengthened the economic condition of both the country and the state, leading to a marked increase in revenue collection.
“Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji’s Next-Gen GST Reforms is a significant step towards transforming India’s tax landscape. Today attended a workshop on benefits of Next-Gen GST reforms, organized by Taxes organization at Muktadhara auditorium, Agartala,” CM Manik Saha said.
Saha said that after India gained independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi successfully implemented the concept of One Nation, One Tax, which no one could have imagined before.
“We had seen different types of taxes earlier such as Excise Duty, Customs Duty, Service Tax, Value Added Tax, Central State Tax, Luxury Tax, Entertainment Tax, etc. In place of all these, the Prime Minister has shown the right direction to the people of the country. Under his guidance, GST has been introduced across the nation, and the development of the country is accelerating through this tax reform. With the introduction of this tax system, the country’s economy has moved from the 11th position to the 4th position,” he said.
“The present goal is to build a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” the Chief Minister said.
“For this purpose, we have prepared a detailed roadmap for Viksit Bharat 2047. Earlier, the GST system had five tax slabs, but it has now been simplified to just two — 5% and 18%. This change has greatly benefited the common people. GST is a people-friendly reform introduced with the welfare of the common man in mind. Under this system, individuals can save at least 4% on their monthly expenses,” he added.
