Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday took a swipe at opposition parties, suggesting they undergo cataract surgeries to better perceive the developmental strides the state has made under BJP governance.
Speaking at a government event in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, Saha remarked, “Development activities have accelerated since the BJP came to power in 2018. However, opposition parties claim they cannot see it. I suggest they undergo cataract surgeries to witness the progress taking place.”
In a sharp critique of the opposition, Saha accused the CPI(M) of misrepresenting a statement by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath during the recently concluded Assembly Budget session.
“The CPI(M) twisted a word and staged a boycott of the session, despite my appeals to engage in discussions. Their approach is consistently negative,” he said.
The controversy stemmed from Nath’s remarks during the session, where he allegedly referred to Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury’s “caste,” sparking uproar.
Mocking the evolving dynamics between opposition parties, Saha likened the CPI(M) and Congress alliance to the plot of the Bollywood romantic classic Ek Duje Ke Liye.

“The Congress has aligned with the blood-soaked hands of the Communists who ruled Tripura for 25 years,” he said, questioning the ideological coherence of the partnership.
Highlighting the state’s growth trajectory, Saha lauded the budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year and asserted that Tripura is progressing across all sectors under the current BJP-led administration.
