Agartala: Tripura received a much-needed boost as a fuel-laden railway wagon entered the state following the reopening of the Agartala-Guwahati railway line, officials from the transport department confirmed on Monday.
The resumption of train services comes after weeks of disruption caused by landslides in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section, which were triggered by continuous heavy rainfall.
The damaged section between KM 108/6-8 in the Jatinga Lumpur-New Haflong stretch has been repaired, allowing the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to restore operations.
Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury earlier reassured residents that adequate stocks of food grains were available, despite a temporary fuel shortage.
With the arrival of the fuel wagon on Sunday night and additional goods trains carrying essential commodities like food grains already en route, the authorities declared that the state is now “free from shortages.”

Limited rail services resumed on June 29, with full operations expected to follow shortly.
The reopening was marked by an empty goods train departing from New Harangajao at 10:21 am, signaling the restoration of connectivity.
Officials expressed confidence that the restored rail services would ensure a steady flow of essential commodities, marking a significant step towards normalcy in Tripura after weeks of disruption.
