AGARTALA: In a bid to give an impetus to Tripura’s tourism sector, former India cricket captain and ex-BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has been roped in as its brand ambassador.
The formalisation of the partnership is set to take place on Monday, marking a new chapter for the state’s tourism industry.
The decision comes after Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced the collaboration, stressing on the goal of leveraging Ganguly’s widespread popularity and influence to enhance the tourism potential of Tripura.
The state government aims to attract visitors by capitalising on the iconic cricketer’s fame.
On Sunday, Minister Chowdhury expressed his optimism about the partnership and highlighted the significance of Ganguly’s involvement.
He stated that the collaboration is strategically designed to shed light on Tripura’s hidden tourist gems and increase its appeal as a travel destination.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who had earlier engaged in discussions with Ganguly, expressed confidence that the former cricket team captain’s involvement would significantly benefit the state’s tourism sector.
Chief Minister Saha took to a micro-blogging website to express his pride, stating, “It’s a matter of great pride that former captain of the India cricket team Sourav Ganguly has accepted our proposal to be the brand ambassador of Tripura Tourism.”
As part of the formalisation process, Sourav Ganguly is scheduled to participate in a photo shoot at two historical sites on Tuesday.
The selected sites include Chobimura in southern Tripura, known for its historical significance, and Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala, the state capital.
The photo shoot aims to capture the essence of Tripura’s rich cultural and historical heritage, showcasing it to a broader audience.
Following a formal request from Tripura officials, Ganguly, who expressed his willingness to support the cause, met with government representatives at his Kolkata residence in May.
With Ganguly’s endorsement, Tripura anticipates a surge in tourism, shedding light on its cultural, historical, and natural treasures, and positioning itself as a must-visit destination for travellers.
