Agartala: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has invited a delegation from the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) for a meeting on July 23 to address the party’s concerns over alleged inclusion of illegal immigrants in Tripura’s electoral roll.
The invitation follows a formal request made by the TMP, a constituent of the BJP-led coalition government in the state.
TMP chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma confirmed the development in a social media post on Saturday, stating, “After we raised concerns about the possible enrolment of illegal immigrants in Tripura’s voter list and called for a Bihar-style Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the ECI has now called us for a meeting on July 23 to discuss the matter.”

Addressing critics, Debbarma added, “We are doing this to safeguard the future of the next generation. This isn’t just a Tipra Motha issue—it concerns every Indian. Let’s rise above party lines and unite against illegal migration.”
According to a party press release, the nine-member TMP delegation, led by Debbarma, will present a range of issues linked to the electoral process in the state.
Chief among them will be the demand for a comprehensive revision of the voter rolls, modelled on the Special Intensive Revision exercise recently conducted in Bihar.
