Agartala: A complaint has been filed against Tripura’s Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, alleging submission of forged educational certificates and suppression of information related to a criminal case in affidavits filed during Assembly elections.
The complaint was lodged on Tuesday at Kailashahar Police Station in Unakoti district by senior Congress leader Chandrashekar Sinha.
Addressing a press conference at the district Congress office, Sinha’s counsel Narsingha Das said the allegations pertain to affidavits submitted by the minister during the 2018 and 2023 Assembly polls.
According to the complaint, Roy, who currently represents the Chandipur constituency, had declared that he passed his Class XII examination in 2004 from an education board based in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
The complainant alleged that the certificates submitted were forged and that the board in question does not exist.
He further claimed that the board had earlier been identified as fake during a Central Bureau of Investigation probe.
The Congress leader also alleged that the minister failed to disclose a criminal case pending against him at the West Agartala Police Station while filing his nomination papers, despite declaring that no criminal cases were pending.
“Submitting forged educational documents and concealing criminal cases in election affidavits are serious offences,” Das said.
Roy had contested the 2018 Assembly elections as a BJP candidate from Kadamtala constituency in North Tripura and later won the Chandipur seat in the 2023 polls.

Confirming receipt of the complaint, Kailashahar Police Station officer-in-charge Tapas Malakar said a preliminary inquiry would be conducted under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“If the allegations are found to be true, an FIR will be registered,” he said.
Reacting to the complaint, Minister Tinku Roy dismissed the allegations as politically motivated.
“This is a political issue. Those who have filed the complaint should be asked for details,” he said.
Congress Legislature Party leader Birajit Sinha and Unakoti district Congress president Badruzaman were present at the press conference.
