AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has urged investors to capitalise on the abundant business opportunities in the northeastern state, assuring full support from the state government.

The appeal was made during the Northeast Trade and Investment Road Show held in Mumbai on Monday, according to a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Tuesday.

Saha expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) for facilitating a platform to boost investment and trade prospects across the Northeast.

“Historically, this region has lagged in development. However, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Northeast has been regarded as ‘Ashtalakshmi,’ a symbol of prosperity, with development prioritized through the Act East Policy.

Tripura, with its distinct geographical and socio-economic advantages, is now positioned as a hub of growth and opportunity,” Saha stated.

Highlighting Tripura’s achievements, Saha emphasized the state’s peaceful environment, surplus power production due to natural gas reserves, and a robust agriculture-driven economy.

“Tripura’s estimated per capita income has reached an all-time high of ₹1.77 lakh in 2024, compared to ₹1.57 lakh in 2023. The state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) grew at 8.9%, the second-highest in the Northeast,” he added.

The Chief Minister also underscored the state government’s efforts to foster an investor-friendly ecosystem through infrastructure development.

“PM Modi’s HIRA model — focusing on Highways, the Internet, Railways, and Airways — has transformed connectivity. The Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, now the second-busiest in the region, is a testament to these advancements,” Saha noted.

Saha further pointed to opportunities in sectors such as natural gas, rubber, bamboo, agro-products, tea, handicrafts, food processing, and tourism.

“We have over 5 million agar trees across 2,000 hectares in the North District and have set up a Rubber Park in Bodhjungnagar, with another in the pipeline for the South District. Tripura, home to 21 species of bamboo, has also introduced a comprehensive bamboo policy,” he said.

The state’s flagship horticulture product, the Queen Pineapple, which holds a GI tag and is declared the state fruit, also reflects Tripura’s agricultural potential.

Saha added that the tourism sector, with prospects for a Northeast tourist circuit involving neighboring countries, continues to grow.

“Tripura also hosts India’s third internet gateway, enhancing digital connectivity. Initiatives such as e-offices and an e-Cabinet demonstrate our commitment to digital governance,” Saha concluded.

Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
