Centre okays Rs 140 crore for Ayurveda, Homoeopathy Colleges in Tripura

Agartala: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 140 crore for setting up an Ayurveda medical college and a homoeopathy medical college in the state, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Tuesday.

The northeastern state currently has three medical colleges, including the Agartala Government Medical College, but the new institutions are expected to significantly expand healthcare education options in the region.

“The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India has sanctioned Rs 140 crore for establishing Ayurveda Medical College and Homoeopathy Medical College in Tripura,” Saha said in a Facebook post.

The announcement marks a significant boost to the state’s medical education sector, which has faced rising demand for specialised institutions in recent years.

According to the Chief Minister, a high-level meeting was convened to finalise the roadmap, with discussions centred on fast-tracking preparations to ensure the proposed colleges become operational by the next academic session.

With this financial support, Tripura aims to enhance its academic infrastructure in traditional medicine.

The establishment of Ayurveda and homoeopathy colleges is expected to offer students specialised academic pathways while strengthening the state’s growing healthcare ecosystem.

Saha thanked the Centre for its support, saying, “I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda ji, and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Prataprao Yadav ji for their substantial assistance in strengthening healthcare and education in the state.”

The sanction is expected to boost Tripura’s push to expand medical education opportunities while strengthening traditional healthcare systems through the establishment of two dedicated institutions.
