Agartala: The Centre has approved a 50-bed critical care block at the Dhalai district hospital, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Wednesday, calling it a significant step towards strengthening healthcare services in the state’s remote regions.
Sharing the update on social media, Saha said the project has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the Pradhan Mantri–Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) at an estimated cost of Rs. 23.75 crore.
Once operational, the facility is expected to substantially improve access to advanced treatment for trauma cases, cardiac ailments and other critical conditions at the district level.
The chief minister noted that the new block would reduce the need to refer seriously ill patients to Agartala, easing the burden on families and improving response time during medical emergencies.
Terming the approval a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in Dhalai, Saha expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J P Nadda for their continued support in expanding modern medical facilities, particularly in tribal and hard-to-reach areas of the state.
Dhalai, one of Tripura’s most backward regions, has earlier been designated an ‘aspirational district’ under the Centre’s development programme aimed at improving key social and economic indicators.
