Agartala: Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the final location survey (FLS) for a proposed new railway line between Jirania and the Bodhjungnagar industrial estate in West Tripura.
According to a statement issued by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on Monday, the Ministry of Railways has sanctioned the conduct of the FLS for the construction of the new line. The proposed railway stretch will span around 14 km, with the survey estimated to cost Rs 42 lakh.
The approval marks a significant step toward strengthening railway infrastructure in Tripura and boosting industrial activity, particularly in the Bodhjungnagar industrial area.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Chowdhury said the project would enhance mobility for industries located in the industrial city and improve the transportation of goods.
“The proposed Jirania–Bodhjungnagar railway line, if commissioned, will play an important role as a rail corridor for transporting goods from the industrial city and will benefit the people of the state, including businessmen,” the minister said.
He added that once the survey is completed, construction of the new railway line would encourage further industrial development in districts adjoining West Tripura, significantly boosting the local economy.

Calling the project crucial for improving railway connectivity and accelerating economic growth in the region, Chowdhury expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Manik Saha and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the initiative.
