Agartala: The Tripura government has assured the high court that the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at schools have been progressing in a phased manner to ensure better safety of students on campus.
This assurance was made during a hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking directions to ensure safety and security measures in schools across the state.
The PIL was filed by an advocate Kundan Pandey, flagging concerns over safety and security of children in schools.
The state informed the division bench of the high court, comprising chief justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and justice Biswajit Palit, that so far 218 out of a total 4,905 schools spread across eight districts have installed CCTV cameras.
The state government has also apprised HC about the initiatives undertaken for the implementation of the safety guidelines at educational institutions as prescribed under the New Education Policy 2020.
The measures have also been shared by the district education officers concerned with all the stakeholders in the matter of the safety and security of the children.
The state government told the high court that it is in the process of addressing the safety concerns of the children by installing CCTV at vantage positions at school in a phased manner.

However, so far as the privately managed schools are concerned, the state has issued guidelines to follow the safety norms prescribed in the New Education Policy.
