Agartala: In a significant anti-smuggling operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered over 180 secondhand mobile phones valued at more than Rs 42 lakh from the India-Bangladesh international border in Tripura on Sunday, according to officials.
The phones were seized by a special ambush team after observing suspicious activity by a group of five or six individuals along the border in the Matinagar area of Sonamura in the Sepahijala district. A BSF spokesperson reported that when the miscreants were confronted by the BSF personnel, they quickly fled back towards their respective sides of the border.
Subsequent searches in the area led to the discovery of 187 used mobile phones of various brands, amounting to a total value of Rs 42,10,400. The seized phones were subsequently handed over to the Customs authorities for further action, the spokesperson added.
