Agartala: Three workers were killed and four others injured after a brick kiln chimney collapsed at Kamalpur in Tripura’s Dhalai district on Wednesday, officials said.
The incident occurred while the kiln was operational, triggering a swift rescue response from emergency agencies.
Personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), assisted by local residents, pulled the victims out of the debris.
The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, with three later referred to the government-run Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed grief over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
In a post on X, he said the chimney of ABC Brick Industry at Kamalpur had collapsed suddenly, resulting in multiple casualties, and confirmed that SDRF and police teams were carrying out rescue and relief operations.
The deceased were identified as Subal Debnath (55) and Pinku Shil (37), both residents of Tripura, and Anil Gautam (49) from Uttar Pradesh.
Among the injured, two are reported to be residents of Jharkhand.

Police detained the owner of the brick kiln, Souvik Paul, along with the kiln manager, and placed them under the jurisdiction of Kamalpur police station as part of the investigation.
Dhalai Superintendent of Police Mihir Lal Das and local BJP MLA Manoj Kanti Deb visited the site and oversaw rescue efforts.
In a separate incident reported on the same day, the body of a 19-year-old student was recovered from the Manu River in Unakoti district.
Police said four youths had gone to the river for a bath on Tuesday. While three were rescued by local residents, the fourth went missing and was found dead on Wednesday.
