Agartala: A Bangladeshi smuggler was fatally shot by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Tripura’s Sepahijala district following a violent confrontation along the India-Bangladesh border.
The incident occurred late Friday night at Putia, under Kalamchoura police station, when a group of smugglers attacked BSF personnel.
According to the BSF, a group of approximately 20 to 25 Bangladeshi individuals illegally crossed into Indian territory to meet their Indian counterparts.
When challenged by BSF personnel, the smugglers launched a violent attack, injuring one of the border guards.
As the situation escalated, the smugglers reportedly attempted to overpower the BSF personnel and seize their weapons.
In response, a BSF jawan fired a single round from a pump-action gun in self-defense, injuring one of the Bangladeshi smugglers.
The injured smuggler was immediately rushed to Bishalgarh hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
