Agartala: Tripura is set to host the eastern region’s first Airtel data centre, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Monday, calling it a milestone for the state’s growing IT ecosystem.
Speaking at an event marking Engineers’ Day, Saha said the state government has already allotted land for the project and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the telecom major.
“This will be Airtel’s first data centre in eastern India,” the chief minister noted.
Highlighting Tripura’s digital push, Saha pointed out that it is the only state in the country to have fully implemented the e-office system, from the Civil Secretariat down to the three-tier panchayat level.
The chief minister also underlined the state’s infrastructure ambitions.
“This year’s budget has earmarked Rs 7,000 crore for infrastructure development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, and this will be possible only when states like Tripura are equally developed,” he said.
Saha urged engineers to focus on accuracy and innovation in their work.

“Site visits are crucial to speed up execution. Any flaw in design or DPR can affect delivery. Engineers must embrace precision and use AI tools for better outcomes,” he stressed.
He added that Tripura is witnessing massive construction activity, including the expansion of national highways.
“The state already has six national highways, with more projects in the pipeline,” Saha said.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha and PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte also addressed the gathering.
