Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday informed the State Assembly that almost 95 percent of the work under the Agartala Smart City Mission has already been completed.

The chief minister said that the remaining works are expected to be completed by May 2025.

CM Saha emphasized that the project is a major step in modernizing the city’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents.

CM Saha highlighted that the Smart Cities Mission scheme, which was approved by the Union Cabinet, is scheduled to conclude by June 30, 2025, and no further extension of the project has been announced by the Union Government yet.

The total cost of the Agartala Smart City Project amounts to Rs 541.04 crore, of which Rs 490 crore has been funded by the Central Government and Rs 51.04 crore from the state government based on a 90:10 funding ratio.

As of now, 65 projects have been taken up under the initiative, with 62 projects worth Rs 375.97 crore already completed, he said.

Roads, drainage systems, and public transport facilities have undergone significant upgrades under the project.

Smart traffic management systems have been installed to reduce congestion, and modern LED streetlights have replaced old lighting to enhance energy efficiency.

The city’s beautification efforts include the renovation of heritage sites, development of green spaces, and the construction of modern public utility areas.

Authorities believe these initiatives will contribute to a cleaner and more organized urban environment.

Saha said that the remaining three ongoing projects include the four-laning of Airport Road from Lichu Bagan to the New Airport Terminal (Rs 96.17 crore), revitalization of MBB College Lake (Rs 32.31 crore), and development of a Children’s Park (Rs 7.64 crore).

He added that these projects are expected to be completed by May 2025.

He thanked the officials, engineers, and workers who have contributed to transforming Agartala into a modern urban centre. He urged citizens to cooperate with the administration and take pride in the changes taking place in the city.
