AGARTALA: In a difficult turn of events, Shivnagar, a neighbourhood in Agartala, was shaken by the discovery of an 82-year-old woman cohabiting with the lifeless body of her son, who had been lying in their home for eight days.
The elderly woman, identified as Kalyani Sur Chowdhury, had been confined to her bed due to paralysis, while her son, Sudhir, aged 54, had been sharing the residence with her until his demise.
Reports suggest that Sudhir’s wife had left the household approximately three years ago amidst familial discord, leaving him and his bedridden mother behind.
Concerned neighbours, alarmed by a foul odour emanating from the premises, alerted authorities to the situation.
Upon receiving the distress call, law enforcement officers, accompanied by an executive magistrate, swiftly intervened.
Upon gaining access to the residence, they were met with the grim sight of Sudhir’s lifeless body resting on his bed.
The paralysed and incapacitated state of Kalyani warranted immediate attention, and she was promptly transported to a nearby healthcare facility for medical evaluation.
It was revealed that she had been occupying a separate room within the dwelling, unaware of her son’s demise in the adjacent room.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered several empty alcohol containers in the room where Sudhir’s body was discovered, raising suspicions of excessive alcohol consumption as a potential contributing factor to his death.
While no visible signs of physical injury were apparent on the deceased, investigators are delving into Sudhir’s mental state, particularly in light of the marital discord he experienced, as a potential catalyst for his untimely demise.
As the community grapples with the shock of this tragic incident, authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding Sudhir’s death.
