Agartala: A 48-member delegation from Tripura is set to participate in the five-day CPI(M) party congress, scheduled to take place in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
The delegation will include Tripura’s CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, along with former Chief Minister and Politburo member Manik Sarkar, as confirmed by a party leader on Saturday.
“All delegates from Tripura are scheduled to depart for Madurai by March 31 to attend the congress, which will begin on April 2. The group will consist of 40 delegates, two observers, and six members of the party’s central committee,” said Jitendra Chaudhury.
Chaudhury further explained that the upcoming congress would thoroughly examine the strategies discussed at the 23rd CPI(M) Party Congress held in Kannur, Kerala.
He emphasised the party’s focus on organisational strength, stating, “At the 23rd congress, the party underlined the importance of building a strong organization. Without a solid structure, no one will give us the attention we deserve. Additionally, the congress emphasized uniting secular forces to challenge the BJP.”

The Tripura CPI(M) leader noted that the Madurai congress would delve into these issues further, setting a roadmap for the party’s future.
“We succeeded in uniting secular parties during the last Lok Sabha elections, which limited the BJP’s seat count. However, despite this success, we were unable to prevent the RSS-backed party from forming the government,” Chaudhury remarked.
The party’s organisational shortcomings will also be a focal point of discussion at the upcoming congress as the CPI(M) looks to chart a path forward.
