Agartala: A senior Tipra Motha Party (TMP) MLA on Sunday claimed that 37 bills passed by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) remain pending with the state government and governor, some for nearly a decade.
The bills, according to Ranjit Debbarma, include legislation on customary laws of various tribal communities and the transfer of land rights to the tribal council.
“As many as 37 bills passed by the TTAADC are pending with the state government since the CPI(M) rule in the tribal council. Some of these bills are eight to ten years old but have yet to receive clearance,” Debbarma said.
The TMP, which governs the TTAADC as part of its alliance with the BJP-led state government, is now considering taking the matter to the Supreme Court.

A TMP delegation, including party supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, is scheduled to reach Delhi by Monday to consult senior lawyers regarding the legal course of action.
“We have decided to approach the Supreme Court to seek its intervention and direction for the clearance of these bills. We want to know from the top court whether the government or governor supports granting these rights to the tribal communities,” Ranjit Debbarma said.
