A 19-year-old biotechnology student from Tripura is in critical condition after allegedly being brutally assaulted by her live-in partner in Gurugram, police said on Friday.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Delhi, where her condition remains serious.
The accused, identified as 19-year-old Shivam, a resident of Delhi, was arrested following the registration of an FIR at Badshahpur police station.
He was later produced before a city court, which remanded him to one day of police custody for interrogation.
Police officials said the accused, a B.Sc graduate, had recently shifted to Gurugram to live with his sister while searching for employment.
The victim, a native of north Tripura, was pursuing biotechnology at GD Goenka University.
The couple reportedly met in September 2025 and had been living together in a PG accommodation in Sector 69 for the past few months.
Family members from both sides were in discussions regarding their marriage.
According to investigators, the incident occurred on Thursday night following a heated argument between the couple.
The altercation allegedly escalated into violence, leaving the young woman severely injured.
Police rushed to the flat after receiving a distress call from the victim’s mother and shifted her to hospital for emergency treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Hitesh Yadav said preliminary findings indicate that the accused assaulted the victim in a fit of rage after suspecting her of infidelity.
“We have collected evidence from the scene and are analysing CCTV footage as part of the investigation,” he said.
