Dubai: Air taxi startup Joby Aviation Inc. is all set to launch its flying taxi service in Dubai. It is going to be the world’s first commercial air taxi service.
Bonny Simi, president (operations) of Joby Aviation Inc confirmed that its first air taxi service is all set to be launched in Dubai.
Joby Aviation Inc is planning to launch the first commercial air taxi service by end of 2025 in Dubai, where it won a six-year exclusive agreement.
Dubai’s government has provided economic support, while regulators have dedicated resources especially to Joby Aviation Inc.
Bonny Simi said the government’s support has helped to remove many roadblocks, which has helped the startup to plan the launch earlier than expected.
Initially it was reported that the air taxi service in Dubai may start from 2026, Simi said, adding that the government support will help to “de-risk that initial launch” financially.
Joby Aviation Inc plans to establish four vertiports across Dubai for its electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles, Simi informed.
The four vertiports are likely to come up at the Dubai International Airport, the man-made island of Palm Jumeirah, downtown Dubai near the Burj Khalifa tower, and the city’s marina.
The United Arab Emirates is all set to emerge as the hub of commercial air taxi services in the world.
In addition to the Joby Aviation Inc, the Archer Aviation Inc. has also signed an agreement in 2023 with the government of Abu Dhabi.
Archer Aviation Inc is also planning to launch its manufacturing and its air taxi service by 2026 in Abu Dhabi. In fact, Joby Aviation Inc is likely to launch its operations much before its rival.
However, Joby Aviation Inc will initially have its commercial air taxi services only in Dubai. But, Archer Aviation Inc is planning to operate services between Abu Dhabi and Dubai as well.
Archer Aviation Inc may also widen its operations across the United Arab Emirates.
