Airtel, Taara forge alliance to propel high-speed internet access across India
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In a strategic move to enhance internet connectivity across both rural and urban areas in India, Bharti Airtel has recently joined forces with Taara, a subsidiary of Alphabet’s X.

This collaboration aims to address the challenges of providing high-speed internet access, particularly in regions with limited cable-based infrastructure.

To overcome these hurdles and extend high-speed and cost-effective internet access to a broader demographic, Airtel has teamed up with Taara.

Taara employs cutting-edge wireless optical communication links that utilise beams of light to deliver high-speed connectivity over extended distances.

According to reports, Taara’s technology achieves impressive speeds of up to 20 Gbps, similar to traditional fibre optic cables.

As part of its expansive vision, Airtel has unveiled the Airtel 5G Plus initiative during the inauguration of the Kochi water metro route, marking a significant step in the deployment of 5G services.

The telecom giant has reportedly extended its 5G network to more than 3500 cities and towns across the country.

The deployment of 5G technology faces inherent challenges related to traditional cable-based infrastructure limitations.

The technology operates through narrow, invisible beams of light, establishing reliable connections between two Taara terminals.

Capable of transmitting data at speeds up to 20 Gbps within a range of 20 km, Taara’s wireless optical communication links offer a versatile solution for bridging connectivity gaps.

According to a blog post by Taara, the collaboration with Airtel is poised to witness the widespread deployment of Taara’s wireless optical communication links across Airtel’s extensive network, spanning both urban and rural areas.

This deployment aims to facilitate the delivery of affordable and fast internet services to a wider audience.

The partnership between Airtel and Taara dates back to 2019, and this recent collaboration further solidifies their joint commitment to support Airtel’s 5G expansion plans.

By integrating Taara’s revolutionary wireless optical communication links, Airtel aims to bolster its network resilience, extend fibre backhaul, and enhance radio backhaul capabilities.

This innovative collaboration is poised to play a crucial role in realising Airtel’s vision of providing seamless, high-speed connectivity to diverse regions across India.
