Indian teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed the record for the most career sixes in Youth ODI cricket during his 70-run innings off 68 balls in the second India U-19 vs Australia U-19 50-over match at Ian Healy Oval on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old left-hander’s innings included five boundaries and six sixes, with his fourth maximum taking him past former India U-19 captain Unmukt Chand’s previous record of 38 sixes in 21 matches.

Remarkably, Suryavanshi achieved the new mark in just 10 innings, extending his tally to 41 sixes. India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal ranks third in Youth ODIs with 30 sixes from 27 matches.

Suryavanshi reached his half-century off 54 balls before falling to Australian captain Yash Deshmukh.

His innings provided India U-19 with stability after the early dismissal of Ayush Mhatre, leaving the team at 117/2 in 18.3 overs.

Riding on Suryavanshi and Vihaan Malhotra’s knocks of 70 runs each, India posted 301 in 49.4 overs.

At the time of reporting, Australia U-19 were struggling at 96/4 in 26.4 overs.

This was Suryavanshi’s second standout performance in the series, following a quickfire 38 off 22 balls in India’s seven-wicket victory in the first ODI.

Earlier this year, he finished as the top run-scorer in the five-match India U-19 vs England U-19 series, amassing 355 runs at an average of 71.00 and a strike rate of 174.01.

Suryavanshi has also made headlines in the IPL 2025, becoming the youngest player ever to be bought at the auction and the youngest centurion in IPL history with a 35-ball hundred for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans.

He concluded the tournament with 252 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 206.56, earning the Super Striker of the Season award.
