KOHIMA: Nagaland braces itself for an electrifying six-day sporting extravaganza as the much-anticipated Northeast Games 2024 gears up to kick off on March 18.

With athletes from across the northeastern states converging, the event promises a celebration of sportsmanship and athleticism across 15 disciplines.

The North East Sports Association has unveiled the schedule and venues for the games.

Festivities commence with a dazzling opening ceremony at 7 pm on March 18, hosted at the Games Village, Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence in Chümoukedim.

This sprawling complex will serve as the primary venue, offering state-of-the-art facilities for various competitions, including athletics in Kohima and lawn tennis in Kuda village, Dimapur.

Across three districts—Chümoukedima, Dimapur, and Kohima—the landscape will transform into a vibrant arena of athletic prowess and competitive spirit.

Excitement will reverberate through the Chümoukedima police complex, with football and archery events adding thrilling dimensions to the spectacle.

The grand finale on March 23 will culminate in a memorable closing function at the Games Village, where outstanding athletes will be celebrated for their exceptional performances and unwavering dedication to fair play.

Hailed as one of the region’s biggest sporting events, the Northeast Games 2024 is the result of a landmark partnership between the Nagaland Olympic Association and the state’s youth resources department.

Preparations are in full swing across hosting venues, with rigorous practice sessions, rehearsals, and sound checks underway to ensure flawless execution.

The grand opening and closing ceremonies, set to be held amidst a cultural backdrop, promise immersive experiences for athletes and spectators alike.

More than just a showcase of athletic prowess, the tournament stands as a testament to the rich sporting culture woven into the fabric of the Northeast.

Organisers envision the games as a platform to foster unity and solidarity among the diverse states, strengthening bonds of camaraderie through a shared love for sports.
