GUWAHATI: The adrenaline-pumping action of downhill mountain biking took centre stage at the 4th edition of the Assam Downhill Championship (ADC) in Guwahati, on Sunday.
Held at Bortila Hill, near Prateeksha Hospital, VIP Road, a total of 60 riders participated in this year’s race, showcasing their prowess across various categories, including Full Suspension and Hard Tail.
Organised by Spokehub Racing in collaboration with the vibrant mountain biking community of the Northeast, the event showcased the region’s passion for the sport and its commitment to nurturing local talent on the national and international stage.
Since its inception in 2018, the Assam Downhill Championship has evolved into one of the most anticipated MTB events in the Northeast.
With a vision to provide a premier platform for downhill riders across India, the ADC has consistently attracted participants from all corners of the country.
This year marked a significant milestone with the inclusion of international riders, with three talented cyclists from Bhutan joining the fray, adding a new dimension to the competition.
The competition was fierce, with riders pushing their limits on the steep, rugged terrain adorned with jumps, drops, and challenging obstacles characteristic of downhill mountain biking.
One of the enduring legacies of the Assam Downhill Championship has been its role in identifying and nurturing local talent, propelling them onto the national and international stage.
Notably, four out of six riders representing India at the Asian Mountain Biking Championship last year in the Downhill discipline hailed from Northeast and had been part of the ADC since its inception.
Downhill mountain biking, often dubbed the “Formula One of MTB”, encapsulates the highest speeds, gnarliest tracks, and biggest features, captivating riders and fans alike since its emergence in the 1970s in California, USA.
The Assam Downhill Championship, as a flagship event of Spokehub Cycling, exemplifies the values of fun, inclusivity, and community.
