GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended best wishes to the Indian contingent participating in Paris Olympics 2024.
PM Modi called every athlete “India’s pride”, and hoped they would “embody the true spirit of sportsmanship”.
“As the Paris Olympics commences, my best wishes to the Indian contingent. Every athlete is India’s pride. May they all shine and embody the true spirit of sportsmanship, inspiring us with their exceptional performances. #Paris2024,” said PM Modi in a post on X.
On Friday, the Indian contingent took part in the Parade of Nations during the opening ceremony of the quadrennial event in Paris.
The opening ceremony saw two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and table tennis legend A Sharath Kamal were the flag-bearers for the Indian team, leading a delegation of 117 athletes.
On the opening day of the quadrennial event, Indian athletes will be competing in seven sports disciplines, including hockey, shooting, and badminton.
The Indian sportspersons will be expecting to open their medal account on Saturday when India’s 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team pairings of Olympian Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh and Ramita and Arjun Babuta take aim at the Shooting Centre in Chateauroux, a quaint town situated about 300 km south of Paris.
The Assam Olympic Association (AOA) organised a special signature campaign on Thursday to send best wishes to ace boxer and Khel Ratna, Lovlina Borgohain, as she competes for top honours at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
Notably, Lovlina will be competing in the 75-kg category as she aims to elevate her bronze medal in Tokyo 2020 to gold in Paris 2024.
