Dimapur: Nagaland Senior Men’s team will open its Ranji Trophy campaign 2023-24 on Saturday against Hyderabad at the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) Stadium at Sovima.
Led by Captain Jonathan Rongsen, the Nagaland team found a slot in the Plate Group of Ranji Trophy championship, along with Arunachal Pradesh, Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Sikkim.
Apart from the first game, Nagaland’s final match against Arunachal Pradesh is scheduled from February 2 at Sovima.
The Nagaland team will play against Mizoram from January 12 at the Gokulbhai Somabhai Patel Stadium at Nadiad in Gujarat.
Against Meghalaya, the match is scheduled from January 19 at the MCA Cricket Ground in Shillong.
The Nagaland cricket team will play against Sikkim from January 26 at the SICA Ground at Rangpo in Sikkim.
Organised annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the Ranji Trophy, founded in 1934, sees teams representing regional and state cricket associations compete.
According to a Nagaland Cricket Association release, Nagaland will be playing in the Plate Group.
This season, the last-placed team in each Elite sub-group will be relegated, while both Plate Group finalists will be promoted to the Elite Group for the following season.
The Nagaland Senior Men’s team will play three away matches and two home matches, it added.
The Under-19 Nagaland team recently won the Cooch Behar Trophy finals (Plate Group) at the same venue on January 1.
