Mumbai delivered a dominant performance, defeating Meghalaya by an innings and 456 runs to move to the top of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A standings on Saturday.
Shardul Thakur and Tanush Kotian were the standout bowlers, claiming four wickets each to secure the massive win.
With 29 points, Mumbai are level with Jammu & Kashmir, but the defending champions lead by Net Run Rate—1.74 compared to J&K’s 1.59.
However, J&K is poised to claim at least three points against Baroda, putting them in a strong position to finish as group leaders.
Resuming on the third day, Meghalaya faced a daunting deficit of 585 runs in the first innings.
The visitors could not offer much resistance in their second innings, folding for just 129 runs.
Thakur claimed 4/48, while Kotian produced a stellar performance, taking 4 wickets for just 15 runs in 5.1 overs.
Meghalaya had only managed 86 runs in their first innings, leaving Mumbai to pile up an imposing total of 671/7 declared, securing a victory with a bonus point.

This victory, Mumbai’s largest-ever margin of victory by an innings in Ranji Trophy history, boosted their hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals, which are set to begin on February 8.
Despite a brief resistance from Kishan Lyndoh (39) and Anirudh B (24), Meghalaya’s second innings quickly crumbled, with Mumbai taking the final eight wickets in just one session.
