Shillong: The U-17 football team of Meghalaya’s Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School has been selected to represent India at the 2nd edition of the Indo-French Football Tournament.

The Indo-French Football Tournament, from March 24 to March 30, is being held in Paris.

The team is the sole representative for India who will take on four French teams of the same age category.

Taking to social media, Meghalaya Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla wrote, “From Shillong to Paris, our young footballers from Myngken Christian HSS have made Meghalaya proud! As the runners-up of the prestigious 63rd Subroto Cup, they are now set to represent India at the Indo-French Football Tournament.”

He said, “Wishing the team all the best as they showcase their talent on the international stage. Play with passion, make memories, and bring glory to our state!”

The school finished as runners-up in the prestigious Subroto Mukherjee Cup (U-17)

The U-17 football team comprises 16 players (including two goalkeepers), one coach, one manager, and one representative from the state.

The team will also get an opportunity to train with the Olympique Lyonnais, one of the prominent French football clubs based in Lyon.

During a send-off ceremony for the U-17 football team, Director of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department Dikki D. Shira said that it is a good opportunity for the team to gain exposure not only to international football but also to the culture and way of life in other countries.
