Excitement is brewing as the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) gears up for its much-anticipated commencement on March 22.

IPL chairman Arun Kumar Dhumal confirmed this eagerly awaited news to a sports magazine on February 20, reassuring fans that the tournament will take place entirely in India.

However, this year’s IPL comes with a unique twist, as it coincides with the Lok Sabha Polls scheduled to be held simultaneously across the country.

This poses logistical challenges, particularly regarding the administrative workforce required for both events, including state police personnel crucial for ensuring the smooth functioning of IPL matches in host cities.

Acknowledging these challenges, Dhumal highlighted that the IPL 2024 schedule may be announced in two phases, with the latter half of the tournament being planned based on the announcement of the Lok Sabha election dates.

“We are keeping a tab on the situation, and once the dates for the general elections are announced, we can plan the latter half of the tournament accordingly,” Dhumal told the magazine.

Dhumal also affirmed that the IPL governing council is working closely with state authorities to make necessary arrangements, drawing from the successful coordination witnessed during the 2019 season, which also coincided with general elections.

“The Board is in regular conversation with all the authorities to ensure that the tournament happens entirely in the country,” assured Dhumal, instilling confidence in fans and stakeholders alike.

With preparations in full swing, IPL teams are gearing up for training camps following the conclusion of the India vs. England Test series on March 11.

The tight timeline leaves host broadcasters with just 11 days to wrap up the Women’s Premier League (WPL), culminating on March 17 in Delhi, and transition seamlessly into the IPL, ensuring a seamless transition from one cricketing extravaganza to another.
