After much anticipation, the Team India squad for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup was announced by the BCCI selection committee during a meeting in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the squad comprises seasoned cricketers including seasoned batter Virat Kohli, whose inclusion was a subject of speculation, alongside opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Notably, Shubman Gill has been designated as a travelling reserve, alongside Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan.
The selection of wicketkeepers was closely watched, and Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson have secured their spots in the squad owing to their impressive performances in the IPL.
The team’s all-round capabilities are bolstered by Hardik Pandya, who also serves as the vice-captain, along with Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel.
Further strengthening the squad are spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, while the pace attack comprises Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj.
India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup will kick off with a group-stage clash against Ireland on June 5 in New York, followed by a high-profile encounter against Pakistan on June 9.
Three days later, India will face co-hosts United States, also in New York.
Subsequently, Rohit Sharma’s squad will head to Florida for their final group match against Canada. The top two teams from the group stage will advance to the Super 8 stage.
