New Delhi: Team India head coach and former Member of Parliament Gautam Gambhir has become the target of a security scare after receiving death threats via email, Delhi Police confirmed on Thursday.
The threatening messages, which reportedly contained the chilling warning “I KILL YOU,” were sent on April 22 — the same day as a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where 26 individuals, primarily tourists, were killed.
According to police sources, the emails were sent from a suspicious Gmail account using the name “ISIS Kashmir.”
The threats were reported at the Rajinder Nagar police station, accompanied by screenshots of the emails.
“We have been informed about an alleged threat email received on an account associated with Mr. Gautam Gambhir. An investigation is currently underway,” said DCP (Central) M Harsha Vardhan.
“Gambhir is already under Delhi Police protection, and we do not disclose specific details of such security measures.”
A formal complaint was filed requesting the registration of an FIR and seeking enhanced protection for Gambhir and his family.
This is not the first time Gambhir has faced such threats. In 2022, he was similarly targeted, prompting authorities to bolster his security. Investigation is on.
