India clinched a thrilling victory over England in the fourth Test in Ranchi, securing the series with a five-wicket win on the fourth day of play.

The match witnessed an intense battle as England threatened to upset the hosts with a remarkable comeback.

Shoaib Bashir’s two wickets in two balls just after lunch left India reeling at five down, requiring 72 runs to reach their target of 192.

However, Shubman Gill showcased his prowess with an unbeaten 52, guiding India to victory alongside Dhruv Jurel, who remained not out on 39.

Their unbroken partnership of 72 runs dashed England’s hopes of a miraculous turnaround.

India’s journey to victory however wasn’t without its hurdles.

Despite a strong start, they faltered, losing three quick wickets for just 16 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, and Rajat Patidar all fell victim to England’s bowling attack.

As tension mounted and scoring stalled, England sensed an opportunity.

Bashir’s double strike ignited hopes of an improbable win for the visitors.

However, India’s resilience prevailed, steering them to an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series.

The defeat marked England’s first series loss under Ben Stokes’ captaincy, ending their proud unbeaten record since 2012.

Despite a valiant effort on Monday, England’s missed opportunities throughout the match ultimately proved costly.

Reflecting on the game, it was a captivating conclusion to a superb Test match in what has been an enthralling series.

While India celebrated their victory, England will rue the moments of missed opportunity that could have altered the course of the game.

The match highlighted England’s struggles to capitalise on crucial moments, evident in their collapse of wickets in both innings.

Missed opportunities, including crucial drops and batting collapses, proved decisive as England suffered their first series loss in two years.

As the teams now prepare for the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala, England will be eager to regroup and salvage some pride after a challenging series.

Meanwhile, India will aim to maintain their momentum and secure a comprehensive series victory.
