Guwahati: Guwahati, Assam’s largest city, is poised to make history as it gears up to host its first-ever Test cricket match and Women’s ODI World Cup fixtures in 2025, according to BCCI General Secretary Devajit Saikia.
Marking a significant milestone for cricket in the northeastern region, the city will become a Test match venue when India faces South Africa in November.
“The second Test of the two-match series between India and South Africa will take place at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium in Guwahati from November 22,” Saikia announced on Sunday.
This will place Guwahati firmly on the Test cricket map, an achievement that cricket enthusiasts in the region have long awaited.
In addition, the ACA Stadium will host multiple matches during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, marking another first for the city and the region.

Saikia revealed that five to six matches of the tournament, scheduled between September 24 and November 2, will be played at the venue.
“The final schedule is still being prepared, but Guwahati has been confirmed as one of the host cities,” he added.
Saikia expressed gratitude to ICC Chairman Jay Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for their efforts in positioning Guwahati as a key cricketing hub.
