GUWAHATI: In bid to bolster cricketing infrastructure in the Northeast, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the laying of a foundation stone for a state-of-the-art indoor facility.
Taking to social media to share the news, secretary of BCCI Jay Shah highlighted the BCCI’s commitment to elevating the standard of cricket in the region.
The initiative, spearheaded by the BCCI, underscores a concerted effort to prioritise the cricketing development of the six northeastern states – Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim.
These states, often overshadowed by cricketing powerhouses such as Assam, Bengal, and Jharkhand, are set to benefit from world-class indoor training facilities.
“Honoured to have laid the foundation stone for BCCI’s upcoming state-of-the-art indoor training facilities in the North East!” wrote Shah.
“Our cricketers from six states will soon benefit from world-class indoor nets, indoor swimming pools, and fitness centres for year-round training options,” the post added.
In addition to the indoor facility, Shah also announced the launch of a new pavilion in Mizoram, marking a significant stride towards enhancing cricket infrastructure in the region.
The BCCI’s commitment to cricketing development in the Northeast extends beyond infrastructure.
Over the past two years, substantial investment has been made in grassroots development, with a particular focus on women’s cricket.
Initiatives such as the Women’s Premier League have witnessed unprecedented growth in women’s cricket, while individual T20 leagues in several states aim to nurture talent and expand the cricketing ecosystem.
As the BCCI continues its efforts to promote cricketing excellence across the country, the unveiling of the state-of-the-art indoor facility in the Northeast signals a new chapter in the region’s cricketing journey.
