GUWAHATI: Renowned swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika has once more made history, becoming the first Assamese to complete a solo swim across Robben Island in South Africa.
In an extraordinary display of endurance and determination, Hazarika has achieved the remarkable milestone by overcoming freezing waters, strong currents, and encounters with marine life.
“It was a challenging swim, with the freezing cold water and encounters with various marine life, including jellyfish, seals, and even small sharks. However, with the blessings of Kamakhya Maa, Bogola Maa, Allah and the unwavering support of my family and well-wishers, I successfully completed this demanding journey,” he said through a video on a social media website.
Reflecting on his experience, Elvis described the journey as immensely difficult yet adventurous, highlighting the physical and mental hurdles he encountered along the way.
His firm determination serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes and adventurers, showcasing the power of perseverance and the pursuit of excellence.
For Elvis this achievement holds significant meaning, representing not only personal triumph but also a source of pride not for the Assamese community, but the entire nation.
“It makes me very happy that I have been able to make a comeback in my career as a Channel swimmer and do all this for the love of my state,” he further wrote on in a social media post.
This remarkable feat marks Elvis Hazarika’s second historic accomplishment in the last three months.
In December 2023, he made headlines by completing a solo swim from the Elephanta Island Jetty to the iconic Gateway of India in Mumbai, cementing his place in the record books as the first Assamese swimmer to achieve this feat.
