Barpeta: The district-level competitions of Khel Maharan 2.0 in Barpeta concluded on a high note, with the winners now gearing up to represent the district at the State Level competition.
The closing ceremony, held with great enthusiasm, was attended by several prominent figures, including former International Athlete Taibun Nessa, who graced the occasion as a special guest.
The event was chaired by District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, IAS, with the honorary presence of Sorbhog MLA Manoranjan Talukdar.
Additional District Commissioners Geetashri Lachit, ACS (Sports ADC), Jayanta Bora, ACS, along with Dr. Ramen Talukdar, Principal of FAAMCH, Barpeta, social worker Jitu Talukdar, and the Chairpersons of the five Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) for Khel Maharan 2.0, were also in attendance.
Dhrubajyoti Deka, DSO of Barpeta, and Rana Pratap Saikia, DIPRO of Barpeta, also contributed to the event’s success.
During her speech, Taibun Nessa inspired the youth by sharing her own experiences from her career as a national-level athlete.
She encouraged the participants to nurture a competitive spirit and assured those who did not win medals that their determination would lead to future success.
Nessa also praised the Assam government’s initiative of offering jobs to outstanding athletes, applauding Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership in fostering sports in the state.
One of the event’s major highlights was the thrilling Under-17 football match between Barpeta (SC) LAC and Mandia LAC, which captivated the audience with its high intensity and sportsmanship.
MLA Manoranjan Talukdar commended the Khel Maharan initiative, emphasizing its role in providing rural athletes with the opportunity to showcase their skills and gain recognition on a national level.
The ceremony concluded with District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, along with other distinguished guests, presenting trophies and medals to the district-level winners.

These winners will now proceed to represent Barpeta at the State Level competition of Khel Maharan 2.0.
The final phase of the event will feature the top performers in various sports disciplines, with the exception of swimming, which will be contested at the Zonal level.
The district-level competitions in Barpeta, held from February 3-5, 2025, included sports such as volleyball, football, swimming, chess, cycling, athletics, and kabaddi.
Khel Maharan, Assam’s flagship sports initiative, continues to foster grassroots talent and promote a culture of athletic excellence across the state, offering a platform for future stars to shine.
