GUWAHATI: In a stunning display of skill and determination, Assam’s Riyan Parag showcased his batting prowess in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), leading his team Rajasthan Royals to a thrilling victory over Delhi Capitals on Thursday.

Parag’s explosive innings, consisting of 84 runs off just 45 balls, turned the tide for the Royals after a shaky start, propelling them to a formidable total of 185/5.

Addressing criticism over his recent form in franchise cricket, the 22-year-old silenced his detractors with a stellar performance that left fans and pundits alike in awe.

Speaking to the press following his son’s outstanding display, Parag’s father, Parag Das, expressed his satisfaction, stating that Riyan’s exceptional innings was long overdue.

“This was expected of him for a while now. From former players to his teammates and well-wishers in Assam and beyond, everyone was hoping Riyan would rise to the occasion and make valuable contributions to his team in the IPL,” Das remarked.

While acknowledging the gruelling nature of the tournament, Das highlighted the importance of consistency.

“It’s a long tournament with 12 matches remaining. I hope Riyan can maintain his current form throughout and help his team clinch the trophy. If he performs well in 10 out of the remaining matches, it will be a success,” he added.

Responding to inquiries about the possibility of Riyan earning a call-up to the national team, Das remained cautious, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the sport.

“While it would be wonderful to see Riyan representing the national team, cricket is a sport of uncertainty. The BCCI closely monitors young players’ performances, but Riyan must maintain consistency. Cricket is unpredictable, and consistency is paramount. Let’s hope Riyan continues to deliver,” he concluded.

Riyan’s exceptional performance earned him the prestigious Player of the Match award, marking a significant milestone in his cricketing journey.
